Marset lighting company is based in Barcelona, Spain Is a family run business that was founded in the 1940's by Paco Marset. They have subsequently arrived in the UK and are stocked widely. Their ethos is to improve the quality of peoples lives through lighting. Marset are a very forward thinking company and consider many elements when they design their lighting. They deign both fresh and timeless lighting that compliments any space. A lot of Marsets designs are rather organic as well. I can't stress enough how much light affects our lives. The obvious light is the sun but in the evenings at home, the soft warm glow of a lamp or some candles really helps us relax and feel comfortable. The extent at which is can change your mood and the way you feel within an environment is fascinating.

The body runs on our internal body clock, modern society has lead us to distrust this natural pattern with the increased amount of blue light in our lives, this interferes with the levels of melatonin being released in the evenings. Using the right type of lighting is key to helping keep our body clock in harmony with nature.

Obviously living in Scotland our winters are long and dark so having extra lighting around the home as well as in work environments stops us from going into hibernation mode throughout the cold season. There are many lamps that Marset have designed that aid in creating both bright and cheerful atmospheres as well as tranquil ones.

In the collage below there is a model that is not actually Marset but a lamp named Cesta by Santa and Cole - a Spanish lighting and furniture company, also based in Barcelona. This model really reminds me of the Marset Follow Me Lamp and this is why I have added it in as it works really well and almost looks like a brother to the portable lamp.

First up is the table lamps, but more than that - the Follow Me Lamp. It is a portable lamp that can be charged up and carried around wherever you go. The Follow Me Plus has just been released this year as well which is the daddy version of the Follow Me.

It is a simple, sleek design that fits in any atmosphere. Creates an ambient diffused glow. The head is adjustable so the light can be set at any angle. The light level can be set to 3 different hues. It is built up of a plywood handle with a timeless oak veneer and a brass switch with the rest of the lamp a light glossy plastic body.

Secondly is the Bicoca, another extremely popular lamp. Slightly more sturdy than the Follow Me Lamp, the aesthetic is designed more for table settings. It is a versatile lamp that is refined and it's form seems more linear than some of Marsets other designs. It comes in such a wide range of colours and is made up of mainly polycarbonate with an adjustable shade as well as providing a clean diffused light.

I really admire the Pleat Box lights. The lamp gives the impression that someone has pinched it at the top and let it suspend. Again it comes in a lot of muted colours and is an understated design. The inside of the lamp bounces the light around so that the light exposed from it is consistent and gives a lovely glow around the space. It can be available in white enamel giving a clean light or polished gold which creates an incredible radiance. The matte outer shell with the light reflecting on the inside is a great contrast.

It comes in 3 different shapes and is a relatively small lamp, meaning it works well combined with the other lights. The idea behind it almost resembles a piece of fabric, I think the shape in which fabric sits is wonderful and almost takes human form. It is a natural form that works really well in contemporary spaces. The process in how these lamps are made is just mesmerising.

Finally is the the Scotch Lamp. The geometric shape of this is right up my minimal nordic personal style as well, again the texture on the inside with the gold enamel. They are beautiful and when they are placed sporadically around the space make a real statement. The navy blue and gold is my future kitchen colour scheme so I completely admire these.

Although all of these lamps suit both home and work environments, I think the Tam Tam and Soho models would work really well in office or commercial studio environments because of their scale and the ambience they produce. The light is bright and not too warm toned which I think helps concentration.
